A member asked:

What is a diastolic murmur ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Turbulent blood flow: A murmur is a sound that is heard when blood flow is turbulent. Normal blood flow is like a lazy flowing and quiet river. When there is obstruction, the flow becomes turbulent. This is much like when there are rapids in a river and you can hear the sounds. When the sound is heard over the heart, it is called a murmur. When it occurs during diastole, when the ventricles fill with blood it's diastolic.
