Persistent coughing: Hi Marilyn, Since your cough has persisted for more than two weeks, it needs to be evaluated. A physician should listen to your lungs with a stethescope and examine your ears and throat. A lung or bronchial infection, new onset asthma or sinus drainage are just three possible causes for a persistent cough.

Possible Allergy: If no fever, sore throat or sick contacts, you are probably experiencing some equivalent of seasonal allergy symptoms if you have not spent time in the NorthWest before. Phlegm from post-nasal drip, which can cause cough, and mild rash may all result from exposure to various allergens. I would suggest you try an over-the-counter anti-histamine like Claritin, (loratadine) Allegra or Zyrtec to start and hydrate.

New home?: The onset of your cough may just be coincidental subsequent to a viral infection or you may be allergic to something in the new house such as cat allergen from a previous occupant or molds from a prior water damage which has not been property fixed . Consider seeing a doctor if this does not improve in another 2 weeks or gets any worse in the meanwhile
