Test for BV: Bacterial vaginosis is an imbalance in the growth of certain bacteria which changes the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina. The cause of this is unknown. The only way to detect this is to examine the vagina and perform laboratory tests on the vaginal fluid.

Please: Get over your fears and be seen. It's not that big a deal. If you have an infection that remains untreated you risk pelvic inflammatory disease, chronic pelvic pain and infertility. That should be more concerning to you than a little swab. Discuss your fears with your Dr. at your appointment. They can get you through it.
