C an you have a herpes outbreak after a colonoscopy?

Yes: Herpes (whether mouth or genital) usually breaks out in response to stress. A colonoscopy may not be psychologically stressful, but it is a physiologic stress (due to anesthesia and the procedure itself). An outbreak is not uncommon. See your doctor, and they can prescribe antivirals if indicated. Hope this helps!

Sort of: Herpes outbreaks can be triggered by stress, illness, basically any kind of upset. The colonoscopy per se does not cause the upset but the disruption in your "balance" does.

Colonoscopy risks: Although there are risks of a colonoscopy, transmission of herpes is not one of them. Herpes outbreaks can be provoked by many factors, however, and the stress of preparing for and getting a colonoscopy could provoke an outbreak.

Yes, with questions.: You can have a herpes outbreak anytime. stress, and most folks consider colonoscopy pretty stressful, can make things worse. That said, if this is the first time you've had a "herpes" outbreak, there is virtually no chance that you got the infection during the procedure. Sometime shingles can mimic herpes lesions. If this is new, se a doctor, there are great treatments. Need 2 confirm diagnosis1st
