Flu: It is not unusual, with an upper respiratory infection, to have decreased sense of smell and taste. There is congestion and inflammation of the nasal passages and dryness of the mouth. Antibiotics are not going to help with the flu. Take some OTC cold/flu symptom relief medication if needed, and drink plenty of fluids to stay well hydrated, and bed rest as needed.

Sense of smell: Viruses can affect the first nerve and the sense of smell. If you can't smell you won't be able to taste either. Hopefully it is only temporary.
