A member asked:

I notice that my husband has a small purple spot on his earlobe. should this be of concern........or is it a hickey. ?

Purple spot: if it is a single small purple spot it is likely a type of benign nevus or hemangioma. A hickey would generally be at least 2-3 cm in diameter, and that is not "small" by dermatologic standards. if it gets larger, changes colors, etc, it should be examined and possibly biopsied by a physician.
