Retinopathy, sugar: The major reason for vision loss with type ii diabetes is retinopathy from poorly control disease. You should aim to keep your hba1c as low as possible; at least under 7.0 and lower if you can get it since that relates strongly to the development of retinal changes. Wildly uncontrolled sugar can also lead to focusing instability. Diabetics are more susceptible to infections as well.
