HIV can be stopped: If someone is identified relatively early, before the immune system is severely damaged (AIDS), the virus can be stopped. I have many patients who are controlled on medication - their virus is essentially 'locked away' thanks to the meds and I never suspect they will get AIDS. This is the good news about HIV treatment. The key is to get 'identified' as infected or not before the damage occurs.
