Variable: Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency are quite common and the medical community is learning how important adequate vitamin D is for good health. The institute of medicine states that 4,000 IU daily is the safe upper limit however some studies have shown that up to 10,000 IU daily may be well tolerated. Levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in the blood can help guide daily supplementation.
