Table salt?: Abnormalities of sodium can cause seizures, either high sodium (hypernatremia) or low sodium (hyponatremia). Both conditions can be very dangerous with serious damage to the brain possible. However, both conditions are usually caused by an imbalance of water, rather than excessive intake or lack of salt/sodium. Hyponatremia can be seen in people who drink very excessive amounts of water.
