Has anyone ever been told by a doctor that they are allergic to the sun. not sunstroke, but actually allergic?

Yes: It is somewhat of a misnomer. We usually use this term to describe solar urticaria, for example. No one really knows why, but sunlight can trigger hives (wheals) in some patients within minutes of exposure. Antihistamines usually work to prevent these events (again supporting the term "sun allergy").
