Yes: It is somewhat of a misnomer. We usually use this term to describe solar urticaria, for example. No one really knows why, but sunlight can trigger hives (wheals) in some patients within minutes of exposure. Antihistamines usually work to prevent these events (again supporting the term "sun allergy").
