Not necessarily: In MBC (metastatic breast cancer), blood markers and PET scans can help determine the presence of metastatic disease and be used to determine if a treatment is helping. Both are not 100% fool-proof. There are other reasons for changes in those results besides changes in the cancer. Talk to your oncologist about it. Not always: There are discordances between tumor markers and imaging, and does not match all the time. If you had high tumor markers before, then normalized, then climbing again, this may suggest a possible recurrance. Under this circumstance, a series of.CT or PET-CT should be used to look for anatomic recurrance.
