Master gland: The pituitary is a gland that is about a centimeter in diameter that sits at the base of the brain in the anterior (front) cranial fossa. It is in the midline and surrounded on both sides by the carotid arteries. It is at the apex of the nasa passages. The pituitary gland is responsible for hormones that control growth, lactation, urine concentration, thyroid hormone release, sex hormone release.
