Should work quickly: There is an Epley MANEUVER which is done generally by a neurologist or a neuro-otologist in the office but they can be done at home after initial treatment. Are you sure you're doing them correctly? If the diagnosis is accurate they should work well. There are another set of exercises which I believe are more easily done than Epley but require a partner. They are called Brandt-Daroff EXERCISES.

Go back: I would go back to your doctor and get reexamined. If you haven't seen an ENT specialist yet, that might be a good idea.
