Depends...: ...on what is in them. Many contain huge amounts of caffeine, which can be dangerous in overdose. Ephedra (ma huang) is another common ingredient that contains ephedrine (ephedrine sulfate) and pseudoephedrine (ephedrine sulfate), both powerful and potentially dangerous central nervous system stimulants. Ephedra is currently banned in the US.
