Spotting: If is not uncommon to have some spotting (mild bleeding) during and after an IUD insertion. What you described is vaginal discharge (mucus) with 'old' blood. Blood that sits in the vagina for some time usually turns brown ('rusty looking'). This is normal and not a cause for concern.
