A member asked:

Is lysol okay to use when cleaning up after hfmd?

Yes: Lysol is a perfectly good agent to eradicate the virus that causes hand/foot/mouth disease. The bigger trick is to get all the surfaces that a child may have touched covered in your cleaning regimen. Good luck! Take a break now and then and sit and cuddle and read a book to your sick child. the bathtub will still be there when you're done!

Yes or soap & water: Hi Autumn: The virus that causes Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease is destroyed by cleaning with soap and water, or with disinfectants. It does not usually survive for long periods outside the body. Here is a link to the information sheet written by the Center for Disease Control on the subject, which is a good resource. http://www.cdc.gov/hand-foot-mouth/
