90% of cases of : dyslexia are language-based, caused by the brain's inability to process phonemes, the smallest units of sound in a language. Only 10% are caused by visual-perceptual, not visual-motor, problems. Developmental Coordination Disorder or alterations in muscle tone & strength are more likely to impact skills needed for sports. A neurodevelopmental exam may reveal subtle signs of mild motor impairment.
