Effective pill: Alysena is a pill that contains 20 micrograms of 17-beta-estradial, which is low-dose, and the second generation progestin levonorgestrel. It is as effective for birth control as comparable pills. Levonorgestrel can elevate blood glucose levels and pills containing levonorgestrel are not ideal birth control pills for women with diabetes or pre-diabetes.
