A member asked:

What happens if cancer is when an oncogene becomes active, what if it mutates the other way?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No change: The existence of oncogenes is universal and termed proto oncogenes. When they mutate they help the cell to tolerate mutations that result in cancer. There are no known instances when an oncogene reverts to a non active proto oncogene. if the oncogene is shut off where function is reduced or stopped, the cell can revert to normal.
