Manage, not cure: Acne is a non-lifestyle-related, serious illness that self-cures eventually for reasons that no one understands. It may respond to a regimen as simple as topical benzoyl peroxide, or require something as arduous as isotretinoin -- the latter will give a remission for up to a year or more. But you need to manage it until it goes away on its own. I was able to stop taking medication at age 50.
