Visit your doctor: The 7th cervical vertebra is usually the most prominent. Other prominent vertebra should be examined by a physician to determine if lab testing or X-rays should be ordered. This would be worrisome if it is a new problem, developed after an injury, or if there are signs of infection such as pain, redness, swelling, or warmth. Other considerations are scoliosis or malformation of the bone.
