What is indication for carotid doppler?

Bruit: For someone who is otherwise not having any signs or symptoms attributable to a carotid stenosis, a bruit noted on auscultation of your neck would be pretty much the only accepted indication for a carotid doppler ultrasound to be performed. If you have a stroke or stroke-like symptoms then a carotid doppler may be indicated as well.

Carotid Doppler: Controversial. My opinion: carotid bruit, TIAs, prior stroke, need for cardiac surgery, need for major non cardiac vascular surgery, presence of lower extremity arterial disease are typical indications for carotid duplex. There are others as well. The study should be done in an accredited laboratory.
