No: The damage from asbestos comes from exposure to a lot of fibers. When there is a large exposure, either all at once or slowly over years, then the body's immune system is overstimulated. The fibers can't be cleared so they stay in the lungs and cause chronic irritation. Over time that causes damage that can lead to fibrosis that impairs breathing or, rarely, even cancer.
