Anemia common: I would say more women are anemic than not at the end of their pregnancies. This is the "norm". Unless you are severely anemic, it will not affect you during labor. You lose blood after giving birth as well, and your doctor will follow this closely. Most doctors check your levels the day after you give birth to decide what further therapy you need. It is rare to need a transfusion, but it happens.
