Corneal scarring: Yes, severe untreated blepharitis can long term cause surface corneal scarring, or can lead to styes, which if untreated, can cause eyelid infections, scarring, or lid deformities. Normally though, blepharitis causes chronic intermittent eye irritation, crusting, tearing, and other symptoms. It is usually easily treated with a daily routine of warm compresses and baby shampoo cleansing.
