More than do: There are many people with diabetes who are undiagnosed. I recommend that all adults have there glucose checked yearly at a routine physical. And anyone who us having symptoms of diabetes should be checked.

A 45-year-old member asked:

What is diabetes compared to pre-diabetes? If you get diabetes, and then improve, do you then have pre-diabetes again?

Higher glucose value: Diabetes is diagnosed when the blood sugar is elevated above a certain level, for example a fasting blood sugar of 126 mg/dl or random sugar of 200. It may be diagnosed when the hga1c is above 6.5. Generally the value should be confirmed by repeat testing. If so diabetes is diagnosed and you have progressed beyond pre-diabetes. If the blood sugar improves you have controlled diabetes.
