Many causes: Fresh blood indicates lower GI bleed (i.e. hemorrhoids, fissures, diverticulosis). One of the concerning causes is a mass in colon. It can be noncancerous or cancerous. It is the scraping of feces against a highly vascularized mass that can cause you to have small amount of blood in stool. In all cases, have it looked at by a doctor. Blood loss can lead to iron deficiency anemia.

Red blood in stool: Red blood in the stool usually comes from hemorrhoids or higher up in the colon from growths which could be benign or malignant. Inflammation and diverticulosis of the colon are other possible causes. Blood in the stool is abnormal and must be evaluated by a physician.

Get an examination: You need to get a medical check up to find the cause of the blood in your stool. The most common cause is hemorroids but the most serious reason could be cancer in the large bowel. Only a medical examination by your doctor can tell the difference between the two. So get a medical check up done soon.
