Heals on it's own: A fever blister is a virus (herpes simplex) nystatin is for fungus. Ice applied to the area will help with the pain, as will something like benzyl alcohol. If you get many of them or frequent outbreaks a doctor can prescribe an antiviral. This may also reduce the time you have it by a day or so.
