? otitis externa: Otitis externa (also known as external otitis and swimmer's ear) is an inflammation of the outer ear and ear canal. The inflammation can be accompanied by bacterial or fungal infection, and the ear canal skin swells and may become painful or tender to touch. When the jaw moves, the ear canal is close to the temporomandibular joint and pain may result. Treatment depends on severity.
