What are the pathways that enable misguided antibodies to attack in lupus patients?

Dr. John Chiu answered

Complex but: The most likely explanation is a loss of immune regulation allowing your immune system to attack the tissues of your own body. The immune system is the pit bull in our body which tries to fend off outside invaders. When the owner can no longer control the pit bull, bad things are apt to happen.
