Athlete's foot: The brown areas sound like they may be something else. For the athlete's feet, use lotrimin (clotrimazole) cream twice a day for a month (the 99 cent store has it under the name of PRO-EX). If it doesnt go away, you will need something stronger via prescription from your podiatrist.

Thick skin.: The brown discoloration can only be due to several things. Either it is natural and a product of your body's melanin output or it a product of your environment. Check your shoes to see if they are part of the problem.
