Syndesmosis injury?: You may have a slightly worse sprain than originally thought present with involvement of the thick ligament between the fibula and tibia just above the ankle joint (syndesmosis ligament). Often called a "high" ankle sprain as it involves more than the usual lower located ankle ligaments (ATFL/CFL) that go from the tip of the fibula to the talus and calcaneus (hindfoot).
