Cause?: Cause for the cardiomegaly is important. If it is correctable like valvular heart disease - it should be. If it is dilated for no good reason (idiopathic) then you'll have to be on medicines. If it is due to excessive alcohol then please quit that. Best wishes.

Cardiomegaly: The term cardiomegaly, by itself, means large heart. It generally refers to overgrowth of the muscle and chamber. A normal sized heart should be about the size of your fist. Cardiomegaly can be a sign of cause of heart failure, which can be a dangerous condition. Some diagnostic tests are more reliable than others in diagnosing this condition. Would see cardiologist as soon as possible.
