What types of medicines do they have for memory loss at 59 with family history of dementia?

Exercise: The best prevention is exercise and healthy diet. No meds have been show to help long term. However, untreated depression is a risk factor. Almost all antidepressants and lithium have been shown to have a neuroprotective effect. None of my long term treated depressed patients have gotten alzheimers even though family members had it.

Two types of: Medications are available: cholinesterase inhibitors such as Aricept and nmda receptor antagonists like namenda (memantine). The first class increases acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in memory. Namenda (memantine) decreases abnormal brain activity allowing clearer thinking.
