Not necessarily: Friendship includes many features. Certainly one can have friends of different ages.The older is often a mentor or information source for the younger. Location and access to other kids may limit your "friend" list to those in the neighborhood, or include family friends.Most expect that a kid will have their close friends from school or other settings that are about the same age.
