Hidden twin: The only way to confirm a twin or multiple pregnancy is by visually identifying the multiple fetuses with ultrasound. If your doctor or caregiver can only see one baby, you're not having twins or multiples. Early in pregnancy, an US can be mis-read and only one fetus seen if the other is "hidden" behind the one on the US.

Hidden Twin Syndrome: Before ultrasound imaging of pregnancy, a twin pregnancy was sometimes missed, and not realized until the twin is delivered at birth. Now with ultrasound imaging, a twin is seen during examination. There is no dangerous hidden twin syndrome to worry you. Relax aabout this.
