Usually no: A Cerclage is a stitch placed around the cervix and tied to keep the cervix from prematurely dilating which can lead to miscarriage or preterm delivery. It is usually removed around 36 to 37 weeks gestation. The pregnancy is considered 'early' term at 37 weeks and most babies do well if delivered at term. None of my patients go into immediate labor after I remove their cerclage.
