No zostrix (capsaicin): Zoster vaccination will not help the symptoms of an active outbreak of shingles. It can help prevent future outbreaks though

Yes: Very little downside in terms of risk, but can significantly shorten outbreak / lessen severity / reduce risk of prolonged/chronic pain syndrome (post-herpetic-neuralgia). Talk to your Dr or Pharmacist for more information.

You mean zostavax?: zostrix (capsaicin) is a topical antipain medicine (capsacian). The zoster vaccine is recommended for individuals over 50 who have had chicken pox. I do rcommend it, but it isn't given for shingles symptoms but rather to prevent shingles outbreaks (or reactivation of chicken pox), remember it also is not a guarantee you won't get shingles

No: The vaccine is to help prevent shingles. Getting the vaccine while you have shingles (or any illness) will diminish your body's response to it. When you get a vaccine, your immune system is stimulated to make antibodies against the illness you are being vaccinated for. To do this effectively, it cannot be busy dealing with a viral or bacterial infection.

Zoster vaccine: The vaccine for Herpes zoster is for Prevention, not for treatment of zoster (shingles) or the after effects (post herpetic neuralgia).
