I am guessing that: at 22 your skin isn't thinner from harsh soap. You should treat your skin gently with exfoliating cleansers, retinols are converted to retinoic acid which actually thickens the epidermis so start there. But most importantly you need to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from collagen and elastin degradation
