Pain: Pain in the back rarely is kidney pain. Kidneys usually hurt when acutely obstructed due to kidney stones or other causes. Kidney pain is not associated with deep breathing or with position. The pain you describe sounds more musculoskeletal. Pain with deep breathing can also suggest lung disease. If it persists or worsens see your doctor immediately.
