Bronchial mucus: Claritin does not loosen bronchial mucus. You want to loosen and raise these secretions using expectorants like plain Robitussin or Mucinex (guaifenesin) as well as drink adequate fluids. Steam inhalations are effective as well.

See a physician: At your age I would not recommend 240mg of pseudoephedrine, the D in Claritin (loratadine) D. It causes severe constriction of blood vessels, leads to increased blood pressure and glucose, irritability and constipation If you have an acute old, you can add guaifenesin (Mucinex, Robitussin). Regular tea may help, too. If you wheeze or have asthma, see a physician; no OTC medication is effective.
