Varies.: A stress fracture and a non displaced fracture of the fourth metatarsal are not mutually exclusive. a stress fracture simply implies the mechanism of the fracture occurrence. When a serious of stresses is applied to a bone that overcomes the bones ability to remodel and recover from stress, a stress fracture occurs. These fractures often respond to a reduction in the activity that led to it.
