Glad you asked.: It can be done. Studies have shown that weight gain can be avoided for patient's on atypical antipsychotics who are educated before hand, monitored and who maintain healthy nutrition and exercise. Some antipsychotics are more strongly associated with weight gain then others. Whenever I start a patient on an antipsychotic - I also send them for a nutrition consult. Consider working w nutritionist.

Not recommended: If you're looking for a way to use antipsychotic medications to lose weight in terms of their side effects I would strongly recommend that you investigate other more definitive ways of accomplishing this worthy goal such as efficient dieting and the development of lifestyle goals and habits that will just cause the kilos to melt away!
