It may or may: not be effective as a monotherapy for you. It won't address psychotic features. Schizoaffective Disorder can be challenging to treat - so work closely with your psychiatrist.

Schizoaffective d/o: Zyprexa (olanzapine) is an atypical anti-psychotic that may be used to treat schizoaffective d/o and other psych illnesses, tho wt gain is a known SE. It sounds like ur doc prescribed lamotrigine and has plans to switch from olanzapine to abilify (aripiprazole)? Typically, lamictal isn't sufficient to treat schizoaffective d/o. Talk w/ your doc to develop the best treatment plan for your illness. Good luck!

It's likely that if : if there are no interruptions w/your antipsychotic (xeplion to abilify), this should be adequate, as Lamic alone is approved for maintenance as a mood stabilizer, not for the psychotic sxs. Lamictal alone, without an antipsychotic will not be completely effective for all schizoaffective sxs. As above, it's effective for the mood stability aspects, +why the other Rx is needed. Good luck!
