Maybe: Caffeine itself is not an irritant, but they way we usually consume it is. Coffee, tea, colas, and hot chocolate can all irritate the teeth or stain them.

No: If by "irritate" you mean adversely affect the tooth? then the answer is no. Heavy consumption of coffee and tea can stain the external surface of the tooth which is easily removed by a professional cleaning and does not harm the tooth in any way. If you are having some dental problem, consult with a dentist as to the true cause of the problem.

Stain: Caffeine itself will not stain your teeth or irritate your teeth, the manner in which it is delivered to your teeth however could prove to be a problem in both staining and possibly irritating your teeth. many drinks with caffeine have sugar in them or added which can definitely become an irritant, and many are served either hot or cold which can also provide irritation.
