None usually: Pure ether has not been used in anesthesia in the U.S. For many years. The newer anesthetic gases such as sevoflurane and Desflurane have been chemically modified to make them safer. When you have general anesthesia today, an intravenous medication such as Propofol usually makes you go to sleep, and breathing gas keeps you asleep. No hallucinations are usually experienced.
