A member asked:

What are the side effects of taking codeine?i've experienced the whole room spinning and feeling very sick and not wanting to eat, is that normal?

Yes: Those are exaggerated effects of codeine and I would advise you to let doctors know these have occurred when you see them. Itchy skin, nausea and lightheadedness are common. Room spinning is not as common. I would advise you to not take codeine again and to see a doctor if any of these symptoms persist or do not greatly improve past the first day..

Discontinue codeine: This medication is not good for you. Guidelines for analgesic use published by the American Pain Society recommend that, as a general rule, any analgesic regimen should include a non-opioid drug even if the pain is severe enough to require the addition of an opioid. Call your doctor for medication adjustment. Feel better.
