Slow recovery: Usually injury to the tailbone especially if it has been fractured can take a long time to heal. By sitting down you are putting pressure on it so that's why it hurts more that way. Try to take anti-inflammatory meds( for example ibuprofen if you are not allergic), sits baths and if worse you might need physical therapy. If pain is severe discuss this with your PCP.
