Several;: There is the basic root canal, then there are re-treatment of root canals (yes they can fail) and apicoectomies, which are repairs of failed root canals at the actuall root tip of the tooth.

Ortho/retrograde: Orthograde - open the tooth, perform the root canal therapy and fill the tooth/canal. Retrograde or apicoectomy - seal the tip of the root after convention root canal therapy has been completed but has not fully resolved the problem.
